The rather splendid Yoko Hotel, Asakasa, deep in the heart of the posh governmental and diplomatic area...

...with a bathroom so small I couldn't actually close the door whilst on the throne.

Trendy Omotesando near Harajuku

The view from Tokyo Tower towards Shinjuku

That rare item in Tokyo - an old building!

An unidentified chunk o' Tokyo

Amazingly I found evidence of alien contact in the great metropolis

The shoddy construction of the viewing platform floor nearly led to my untimely demise...

A section of Hadrian's Wall turned up recently in Roppongi Hills

Shinjuku at night, where apparently there's an emporium dedicated to green peas

And more of the same...

Ditto

In the Museum of Western Art, Ueno...

...and next door, the National Museum

On the Metro - notice the next stop is Akihabara, electronic nerd paradise

Shiodome - a must for fans of stark modern architecture on a grand scale

Mirror glass - perfect for those arty shots!

Well-healed business folk in Shiodome, while I, ashamed of my UNIQLO T-shirt, lurk in the bushes

And on to teen-central Shibuya, where apparently you can have a sample bang in the Fruits Parlor

Time to head out of the city and get some culture under the gaze of the Big Buddha of Kamakura

And just to prove that I really did go there...

Just down the road I found a beach, where I stayed all of 2 minutes. Us pallid English folk just can't hack it, you know

On to Yokohama, with a real Chinatown full of real Chinese. I'll have a chow-mein and chips, please...

The very same location!

Down at the Yokohama docks strange things have been happening to containers...

The charmingly-coloured docks of Yokohama

A famous boat which once plied the waves between Yokohama and Seattle

Back to Tokyo and the days of the Bubble Economy when you could pee away cash on daft architectural blobs

Another view just so you can appreciate the size of this thing

And here's what happened to the architect behind it - homeless and averting his gaze from his monstrous creation

Nice plastic leaves lead the way to the temple in Asakusa

And here it is, right near the Yoshiwara naughty area of old

More punters coming and going to the temple

Purification by incense...

...and a ceremonial dousing of a deity, and our week in Tokyo comes to an end.
